Archaeological Conservation: From Small Finds to
Site Preservation Symposium 2019
We are hosting a symposium on July 6 and July 7, 2019, at the Japanese Institute of Anatolian Archaeology (JIAA) in Kaman and are inviting papers from the archaeological excavations in Turkey.
We are especially interested in projects that involve the collaboration of archaeologist and archaeological conservator and we ask for contributions that illustrate the beneficial interaction of archaeology and conservation contributing to a better understanding and improved preservation of the cultural heritage in Anatolia. Ideally we encourage participation by both the archaeologist and conservator involved in the project at the symposium but we will understand if it is not possible for both professionals to attend. Papers dealing with small finds, architectural conservation, and site preservation will be welcome.
Please submit the title, names of authors, affiliations of authors, and a 300 word (max) abstract by May 15, 2019, to Alice Boccia Paterakis at alicepaterakisyahoo.com. We are calling for papers in English and we plan to make the papers available digitally following the symposium. The program will be shaped according to abstracts received and you will be notified of the decision regarding your submission by May 31, 2019.
We ask that the powerpoint presentations devote equal time to archaeology and conservation, approximately 10 minutes each, totaling 20 minutes for each paper. A discussion period will follow each paper. Ideally the papers will be presented by the archaeologist/conservator co-authored team. Please provide us with the final digital draft of your paper by email before the symposium so it may be prepared for dissemination following the event. Instructions for authors regarding the format for your digital papers will be sent later. Limited accommodation will be available at the JIAA and recommendations for accommodation outside the JIAA will be provided if necessary. There is no fee for presenters or attendees.
We very much look forward to your participation.
Sincerely,
